February 11, 2025 - Peace & Finding A Balance

I've talked before about how things which are in the news may leave us afraid and/or angry - or both. This is completely understandable and how you feel absolutely matters. When I feel afraid and angry, I don't feel like I have the "power" in my life, which makes me feel worse, so today I want to talk again about doing things to help us feel peace and strength and like we are able to make solid decisions which will put us in the best place to move forward.

Yesterday my husband and I spent time in the Tropical Conservatory at a local garden and sculpture park. I live in Michigan where it is cold and snowy, so being able to spend time around nature and art made me feel much better. It was relaxing and renewing. As I've talked about before, there are many studies which show spending time in nature and around art has so many benefits for us. If you are able to do this, please make time to do so for yourself. It will help.

When I listen to the news, I typically feel more afraid and angry, so I am limiting my time doing this. I have to find a way to balance knowing what is happening so I am able to take action wherever I am able to do so, and making the choice to protect my peace. Don't spend all your time listening to or reading the news. Find a source which is reliable (I tend to like bluesky) and then limit the time you spend there. It matters for us to know what is happening, but we also have to have peace for ourselves - finding a balance matters as it empowers us.

Be careful when it comes to making big decisions. Don't let what is happening now damage or limit your ability to move forward to a life which will bring you joy and peace. I know it can be hard to see a positive future, but there are people who are fighting the things the current president is trying to do. There are judges who are making decisions which protect us and who are committed to enforcing the law. Don't give up. Don't let the people who are trying to harm us push you towards making choices which damage or limit you.

And, again, please surround yourself with people who love you and who have your back. Don't let the stress of what is happening push you away from them. Accept their love for you and love them back.

So, once again today I want to send you my virtual "hug" - You matter. You deserve to be loved and are loved - I love you! You make our world a better place - we need you in this world. I hope you have people around you who tell you these things, but if not, please let me be someone who does. Yes, I say this every day, but these words are true and will always be so.
