February 19, 2025 - Good News

It is easy to listen to or read the news and become afraid, angry, and discouraged as you hear or read about the horrible things the president is doing, but today I want to share with you some good news! There are States, such as the one in which I live - Michigan, where they are strengthening their civil rights laws, where they are standing up against the executive orders from the white house and choosing to keep Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion laws and policies intact in their schools, and where the Attorney General is joining with Attorney Generals from other states to protect their residents by choosing to sue the trump administration. 

There are also cities across our country where they are doing the same thing - such as Grand Rapids, which is the second largest city in Michigan and not far from where I live. There are businesses which are refusing to cave to the current president and his administration by strengthening their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies such as Meijer, Costco, Apple, J. P. Morgan Chase, Old Navy, and Procter & Gamble to mention just a few - you'll find a larger list at this link.

And, there are groups, such as the Trevor Project, ACLU, and more who are standing up and speaking out against the things which are happening in our country. These groups are choosing to sue to stop the president and musk. They are working to make our country a safe place for everyone!

These things are good news! And I have more good news! Thousands of people are turning up at protests against the current president in cities across our country! People are also choosing to stand up and speak out, so while loud voices - such as the president's - spread fear, there are so very many more voices being raised by people who are standing up and speaking out. You are not alone! I know it may feel like it at times, but the truth - the good news - is, we are not alone!

So, here is my virtual "hug" for today - You matter. You deserve to be loved and are loved - I love you! You make our world a better place - we need you in this world. I hope you have people around you who tell you these things, but if not, please let me be someone who does. Yes, I say this every day, but these words are true and will always be so.
